Photography Tips – Lenses – My Favorite Lens

It’s been a while since I posted one of these, I know but this was the last one I recorded a long time ago so I wanted to make sure to post it.

I was just talking about this lens to my friend Manu last night. This really is the greatest lens. It takes beautiful photos in low light and it’s the perfect focal length and most significantly it’s really affordable. The thing with having expensive photography equipment is that it makes you worry about it constantly which might make you reluctant to use it and you should never be worried enough about your camera/lens that you don’t take the photos to document your moments. In my opinion, of course.

Here’s the little movie.

I have this lens, also for my Canon (40D) and have not fallen in love with it. I will get it out now and keep it on for several weeks to get used to it. The reason would be for your tip: I have such a problem with lighting. We live in the mountains, in a hollow between two mountains, so we get lots of indirect sunlight in our house, not bright, clean light. So, I use a Speedlite, which I think casts an unnatural feel to the photos. I’ll let you know in a few weeks how it’s going. Thanks for the tip.

I have the Canon 40D and I absolutely LOVE my 50mm lens. I got the 50mm 1.4 lens last Christmas. Once I got used to it I found it is rarely off my camera – only when I’m at the hockey rink and need the telephoto. I agree,it is very versatile and cost effective. Thanks 🙂

Do you ever take high-speed indoor sport shots: basketball, hockey, gymnastics, bowling even? If you have any recommendations for THAT lens, I’d appreciate it. I’m using a 70-300mm/1:4-5.6 lens right now and find it hard to focus. Thinking about getting the 70-200mm 2.8, but at $1,500CDN, I don’t want to buy and be disappointed!
