A Book a Week – I am Number Four

I am Number Four was another read recommended by my friend Kathy who reads a lot of Young Adult books. She said it was good and she said there was a movie coming out. I didn’t ask more, I just read. It had so much of what I don’t usually read: aliens, teenagers, science fiction.

But I read it in one day. I loved it.

I got engrossed in the story. And I wanted more. Like the Maze Runner, this is supposed to be a series so not all was resolved. Which annoyed me, of course. (And I did skip a bunch of the fighting toward the end.)

I later found out that James Frey is one of the authors of the book and despite the crazy scandal surrounding his first book, I am a big fan of his writing style so it wasn’t that surprising to me that I liked the book and will be going to see the movie.

I thought of you when I saw Stacy Julian’s March 7th blog entry. It is a video about finding your style/authentic style. If you haven’t watched it, I think you would appreciate the message!

LOVE the reading LO. I taught my son to read before kindergarten, too…he practically demanded it, and it is so rewarding.

  • My son read this book recently and loved it. He went to see the movie with his Dad and they both loved it. My husband thought it was one of the best movies he’s seen in a while.

That’s so interesting that James Frey wrote that book. I wondered what happened to him. Oprah really ripped him a new one. I agree with you, I liked his style too. I thought the movie looked interesting and would like to see it even if it’s a kids. I read “The Book Thief” wich is a young adult book and loved it. I would recommend it to you.

Thanks for the recommendation. I too enjoy James Frey’s writing. I also read Book Thief…liked it a lot, but not a “love”. One that I did love is Room, told by a 5 year old. It is a compelling thoughtful read. Just saw on Twitter where you were with Brene Brown today…lucky lucky lucky you…and her too. How I wish I could have been a little mouse in either of your pockets. Two inspirational women.
