Reclaiming My Time Workshop and a Giveaway

Sorry to be inundating you with giveaways and random talk about things to buy. However I know many of you who read here have found me through Big Picture Classes and so I wanted to let you know that I have a new workshop that’s opening on December 1.

This is a workshop I wrote and taught in 2009. When I wrote Finding Your Way last year, it was as a response to the Layout a Day I did and how it changed my life. I wrote the course after my scrapbooking process was transformed. This class was the other way around. Writing this class actually changed my life. It made me take a good, hard look at how I am spending my time and what I want to be doing with my rare and precious minutes in my day.

Here’s part of what I wrote in the description for the class:

“You will never find time for anything. If you want time, you must make it.”

On the surface, this workshop is about time. Specifically, about how you spend your time. But, in reality, it’s about so much more than that: reclaiming time to use it as you WANT to live your life.

If you ask me, time is the great equalizer. We each get 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That’s 1,440 minutes, every single day. Let’s say you sleep a generous 8 hours a day; that still leaves you with 960 precious minutes every day. How you spend those minutes adds up to how you spend your life. Don’t you want to spend those 960 minutes doing the things you most love doing?

“Realize that now, in this moment of time, you are creating. You are creating your next moment. That is what’s real.”

This is an unusual class for a few reasons:

  1. There are 4 week’s worth of lessons but they will be spread over December and January to give you time to observe the holidays, take a break, and still be able to go through the lessons.
  2. I think it’s important to do this class in December-January time-frame because it’s a common time to make resolutions and I think this class will transform how you make resolutions.
  3. The class is mostly exercises that involve tracking, thinking and brainstorming. And then making resolutions/plans. There is a minibook but if you don’t have time to create that, in my opinion, the biggest value of the class is doing the work, not the minibook.
  4. This class will be open all of 2012 with monthly check-ins from me to ensure you (and I) stay on track and can address issues that creep up throughout the year.

I can promise you that if you do the work, this class will change your life.

If you’re on the fence and waiting, I urge you to take it because I may never teach it again. I often have people email me after the deadline passes and I feel terrible telling people that it’s too late. I don’t want to offend anyone and you certainly don’t have to sign up but I wanted to be upfront about my schedule.

If you have questions about the class, don’t hesitate to leave me a comment or email me. I will gladly answer any questions. I try to only teach classes that I feel strongly about so I have no problem giving as much information as you need to decide one way or another.

I am giving away one seat in my class today. Like last week, I will ask for suggestions for other classes you might like me to teach so I can decide what and if I will plan classes for 2012. So just leave a comment. I will leave comments open for a week and announce the recipient next Friday (November 11). If you’ve already signed up for the class, you can still be eligible to win and you’ll just get a refund so don’t worry.

You should know all the links to my class are affiliate links and I might get a tiny cut if you click through my site to sign up. And before I leave, I also wanted to mention that I participated in the 12 Days of Christmas class as a teacher. I will tell you more about that and do a giveaway in a few weeks.

  • I’m already signed up for the Reclaim Your Time class. I’m very excited as that seems to be my number one problem lately. It IS the great equalizer. I love classes that are about daily creativity. I prefer scrapbooking classes but it would be fun to have a daily creativity prompt with mostly scrapbooking but other fun projects to spark creativity.

  • I am so excited! I just signed up for the class. I just wanted to let you know, though, that the link you posted doesn’t work. There is an extra / that shows up in the address. I was able to get aroudn that though, so I think I still used your affiliate code.

Hmmm, what other classes would I like to take with you? Well, I am so sad I missed “Finding Your Way.” I will definitely take it if it is ever offered again. I would also love to learn how you take all those big patterened paers and use them to create the lovely, layered embellishments that are your signature. I do love the look.

  • I can’t wait, I signed up for the class already and ready to begin. I am heading out of town on the 2nd, so probabily won’t be able to start up until I get back. Love the fact that your are spreading it out over Dec and Jan. This really makes it doable! Thanks

  • I’m really excited for this class! yay!

I really love classes that involve self-growth, along with scrapbooking. Makes the hobby fun and educating at the same time. Like you said, about the process… I’ve never been so into just following along xyz project and that’s it.

  • STOP right here this is it. THIS is what I need. I really do wonder if I could figure out how make more time in a day or at least a clone machine SOMETHING! lol. For me classes that help make me be able to manage better is what I need. Thanks for the chance!

  • Dear Karin,

I already signed up for the class. I’m excited to learn from you again… I just love your classes because there is always so much meaning in them.

I would love to see you teach a class about art journaling or personal growth… or something with sketches from you.

    greetings, V.

Wow! This class sounds good. But I like everything you do 🙂

I would like to take an art journaling class from you. Thanks!

Hey Karen, I have already signed up and am waiting eagerly as this workshop is just what the doctor ordered! Can’t wait to start changing my life! An art journaling class combining personal growth would be fantastic actually.

I am really torn about taking this class. Believe me I need to create a better way of managing my time. I have found that since I discovered how much info there is online about scrapbooking, I spend more time looking at what other people have done than creating my own layouts and projects. Then there is my issue with self help. It just reminds me so very much of my 10 + years in therapy. I believe I am leaning towards taking the class, I just need to think about it a little more. I must say I love your scrapbooking style, and I am willing to bet you did not spend hours and hours online to come up with it. I imagine you sat down and started creating.

I am so glad you posted about this class since I have been thinking about it since Big Picture posted it. Since I know that you also took Soul Restoration 1 & 2 – could you tell me a little more about how this might be different, since part of Soul Restoration is thinking about how you are using your time….

I think what I would like to see is a journaling class, with prompts for daily, weekly writing since I love many of the topics you write about and how thoughtful you are about them – this could be combined with ‘art journaling’ but not necessarily.

  • cristi

i’m totally with those that mentioned an art journaling/personal growth class.

also, i’d love to see book of stories offered again or offered as a self-paced class.

    thanks! awesome, as always!

  • This class sounds great! Thanks for the chance to win.
I would also be interested in an art journaling class.

    ciao ;o))

A class I would be very interested in taking with you is a sketching class or a journaling class. I’d love to know more of where your idea sparks come from and how you let your inspiration flow through your work. I think that’s what I love the most about your blogs. Seeing what classes you take and where your inspiration takes you.

  • Cheryl

Comment: I would love to take this class!

  • Michelle H.

Also love to have another journaling class from you.

Sounds like a wonderful class. I check your blog most days, love your art work and I really admire your authenticity as you share your ups and downs of everyday life.

  • ruth

As you know – i had emailed you to ak how you get so much done – which you kindly answered in a blogpost – this class looks like a great way to examine the way I spend MY time and assess what my real priorites are. I have already signed up – thanks for putting it at such a great price too! Ruth

    HI Karen,

I’m sooooo excited to see you doing this class and would love to be in it. Was going to purchase it this weekend, but will wait just in case I’m the lucky one. I’ve always been in awe at how much you get done and how discplined you are with your projects. Thanks so much for this chance and either way I will see you in class.

  • rene jantzi

What great timing for such a subject and you certainly model it. I would love to take the class! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  • Amy E.

I would love to be in this class! I am loving your art journaling pages and would love to take a class to learn to do what you do…

  • I think a beginning art journaling class would be great. 🙂

  • This seems like a fabulous class! I would love to take it! I would also love if you gave a class on sketching – I have been so impressed with your sketches, even though I know at the beginning of this at least, you didn’t feel like you were good at it. And of course, I love your scrapping style, so any kind of class you do on scrapping, I would love as well!

  • Bea medwecky

Karen, I have loved all your your classes and can’t wait for your class to start. Thanks for the opportunity to win a seat in it. I have been following your blog for a little over a year now and I totally love your art journals. I would love to see an art journal class from you.

  • Karen I’m excited to see one of your classes opening soon and one you will be part a team! I would love to tae an art journaling class, photography, scrapbooking or perhaps something on writing. Looking forward to both the classes & giveaway!!

  • Love your work and the thought that you put into your classes. I totally agree. This is something that I continue to work on. Good on you for putting it together and sharing your insights.

  • I’ve been doing the One Little Word class and enjoying it, whilst doing something crafty I started thinking of a word for next year and decided on TIME. So was rather thrilled to see this class reoffered – didn’t get to do it in 2009, to busy dealing with floods etc.

Signed up too for the 12 Days of Christmas class – looking forward to having that burst of inspiration from all the teachers. Wished I’d thought about that affiliate link.

Thanks for the chance to win a spot.

  • Sidenote: The sign-up link isn’t working (at least for me).
I’d still love to see you do a class on colors, though that sounds so silly and superficial compared to the content and theme of this class. Wow…I so need this class. I choose a word each year, ala Ali Edwards, and have chose “now” and “time” and numerous variations on both in the past but still struggle. This is the first year I’ve had some child-free hours in my week (my youngest started preschool for 8 hrs a week)—and I thought I’d accomplish so much more with that time than I do.

I can’t wait to learn more about the class!

    • karenika

Deirdre, did u click where it says “click me” or the photo? The link works for me so I can’t figure out why it’s not working for some people 🙁 Are you using Firefox? Chrome? IE?

  • It didn’t work in IE but worked in Chrome…no idea why.

  • Zeynep

Just signed up! I have never taken one of these classes, but I *do* need to think about where and how I spend my time so hoping this will be a good catalyst. Very excited to take a class from you Karen!

  • Marie

    Karen,
I have really enjoyed your classes at BPC. You are always pour so much into the materials and topic and have such a wonderful care and concern for your students. From reading your blog it’s so apparent you are very intentional about doing art, reading with David, taking family photos, going on dates, etc. I love that you are sharing your ideas for making best use of one’s time through another class!
    Thank you!

  • Hester

What a great class, I would love to change some parts of my life right now,and i am thinking about how to do that more and more. I would love to take more classes in 2012, 1 of them is on journaling on your layout and i would also like to learn more about design.

  • I enjoyed the first workshop I took with you, Embrace Imperfection, and I found out about you at all thru the August festival at BPC. Which led me to you blog, and your amazing art journal work, which has hugely impacted my life. I’d love to win a seat in this class because I think any class you might teach would be worth it.
I’d love an opportunity to take Find Your Way, because although I don’t really scrap much, I do art journal, and I think I could learn a lot from it.
Another class I’d love to see you teach is one on art journaling, using a landscape notebook, doing a week at a time, as you have done. Some of those spreads are my favorites, of all your posted art.

  • Stacy Hart

Winning is FUN and even more rewarding is learning how to embrace every minute of my life!!! Cheers to a life full of all that delights my heart. MWAH.
