Layout a Day in May – The Best Part of Having Two Kids

Day number Twenty-five.

The journaling is about how my favorite thing in the world is watching my two kids play and laugh together and how David is the best big brother and loves making his little brother laugh.

  • Let me tell you – again – how wonderful all these layouts are. I love the colors, the pictures (priceless… I want to have 2 kids too!) and the journaling… You’ve inspired me to try this layout thing as well. I’ll try to do it in June (fingers crossed). I have a few questions though:
    – have you registered to Lain Ehmann’s LOAD challenge or are you doing this on your own? If you have registered, do you get inspiration/motivation from it? I’m a bit worried about doing this on my own in June…
    – did you prepare for this in advance? Ie, did you select (and get printed) pictures you wanted to scrap, papers (I know you used an AMM kit), did you do some journaling (or at least think about what you wanted to say)? Or are you doing everything right when you sit down to scrap?

Thanks for the inspiration and happy anniversary!
    Anne

Anne, I plan to write a long post of my LOTD experience for June 5. But since you’re planning to start on June 1, I want to make sure I answer your questions.

      1. No, I didn’t register for Lain’s challenge. I didn’t want to pay the money and didn’t feel like i needed it. If you think you might not be able to do it on your own, I think very highly of Lain and I know she’s done this several times so I am sure she’s great. I know there are some people who read my blog who’ve done it with Lain so maybe they can chime in?

      2. I did a little preparation. I put a bunch of the photos that I had on my computer to a specific folder to have them printed and ready. I printed them in bulk so I had ready photos anytime. I pulled out a bunch of products I liked but hadn’t used in a big box and limited most of my usage to those with the exception of thickers. I also made a folder with layouts by others that inspired me so I could use them as sketches or to lift. The journaling I tend to write naturally but I did think of the story I wanted each layout to tell. I didn’t type up stories in advance but I kind of wish I did. I plan to do more of that I think. For now I like using my handwriting instead.

Did that answer some of your questions? I really didn’t think I would make it through but I am really enjoying it. I scrapped first thing in the morning every morning. I would wake up, nurse NAthaniel and make breakfast for both kids and sit to scrap as they ate. I aimed to finish no later than 9am each morning, 8:30 if I am driving David to school.

let me know if you have any questions, i am very happy to answer.

  • Many thanks for answering all my questions right now!
I have started to make a list of items/techniques/LO ideas I wanted to use for my pages and I’ve also started writing a list of stories/pictures I wanted to scrap.
I love your ideas of putting the products you wanted to use in a basket for easy access and I’ll definitely put the pictures I want to use in a specific folder.

It reassures me a bit to learn that you are doing it on your own. I would have loved to take part to Lain’s challenge for that extra bit of motivation/inspiration but May was really too busy for me. So June it will be!

Now all I need to think about is when I’ll do the actual scrapbooking… You’re really lucky to have such great kids. It is impossible for me to scrapbook while Gaëtan (18mo in June) is awake: he’s too curious and always wants to get on my lap to have a better look at what I’m doing! Thank God for nap time 😉

sounds like you’re really gonna do it!! I am so excited for you and feel free to email me anytime you need some cheering on. I did end up using a lot of the products I’d bought a long time ago and never came around to using so that made me happy.

I do mine first thing in the morning. Nathaniel is often in his high chair eating and sometimes if he finishes quickly and is getting grouchy, I might give him a few toys, too. I am lucky that I have dAvid to entertain him. If I take too long, he does get antsy and needy and comes over to nurse a lot. That’s when I know I’d better finish soon 🙂
