This is assignment nine and it’s all about envy. Things I am jealous of (which is things I am craving in my life.) Many of mine are about how I want to look and feel. Connection/community/companionship. Adventure/wonder. Courage and belonging. Calmness. Talent, specifically artistic talent.

So there you go.

This is assignment eight, it’s all about how you use your time. Rituals and systems I have and how distribute my time vs my goals. My rituals are:

  • writing the blog
  • writing daily/weekly todos
  • reading/listening to books
  • exercising every weekday
  • sitting outside in the backyard (harder now that it’s colder)
  • cooking for the week
  • making lunches+dinner
  • preparing meals for me (smoothies in the morning)
  • buying flowers
  • weekly family photos

So those are the photos I put this week. Love looking at this one. Feels like home.

This is assignment seven: body love. I will admit that the first time I got this assignment I couldn’t even read it because I was at such a tough place with my body image. But this time I was in a more open space and I did all the journaling. At the very end, she asks “What can I do to be more in love with my life right now?” And I loved this question. My board is all about that.

Body and self-care. Baths, massages, meditation, makeup, more smiling. Journaling, learning new things, photography.  Adventures, camping. Reading, resting, connection. Flowers. Volunteering. Giving.  Candles. Art. Gratitude journal. Color. Travel. Family time.

These are the things that make me fall in love with my life.

This is assignment six which was a direct response to yesterday’s board. I took every single expectation and turned it around, or found some way through it. I’ve since looked at these pages often to remind myself the perspective that helps me (as opposed to the one that’s not serving me.)

This is assignment five. This one was all about expectations. Expectations I have of others and myself. I blurred out the text here because it was all very personal but I can say that almost all of them were expectations I had of myself. Things I tell myself all the time. Ways in which I worry about disappointing others (or myself.) And they weigh me down so much. Which is why I put this photo of the girl in the middle because they make me feel exactly like that.

This is assignment four. It’s all about play! This one had me sad at first because I am not sure I know how to play. Then I realized that maybe my definition of what others call play is too narrow. So I decided to define it my own way. Which then opened up a lot of possibilities like taking classes, journaling, scrapping, photography, being with friends, art journaling, and more.

So here’s to defining things my own way!

This is assignment three. It’s all about self-talk. Limiting self-talk and empowering self talk. So I peppered my board with all the topics that create all the negative self-talk in my head. The things I need to remember, the things I try to remind myself, the things that I “know” but can’t seem to really internalize enough.

This is assignment two. It was about all the spaces in my life. I focused mine on my house and each room in my house. I know you can’t see many of the details but I love the way this turned out in real life. I spent a lot of time thinking about all the rooms in my house and the feeling I want to invoke in each of them.

You can’t see it well but each little square has the name of the room and the feeling/word I want.

Here’s the list:
kitchen – nourished
garage – utility
master bathroom – sanctuary
n’s room – cuddly
my desk – engaging
master bedroom – restore
laundry room – grateful
kids’ bathroom – encouraging
living room – connection
backyard – serene
front yard – community
d’s room – curious
landing – pause
front room – welcoming

November 2017 – Art Boards – 1

Many months ago, I signed up for a wonderful class by the incomparable Stephanie Lee. I’ve taken many classes from her before and I knew I would like this one.

At the time I took the class, I was in some sort of funk and each week as her emails reached me, I would read them but would not do the journaling or even really the thinking her emails encouraged. I wasn’t in the right place. When the class finished, she announced that she was going to offer another version of the same class, but this time with accompanying art. I signed up again.

And by the time the second iteration rolled around, I was in a different place and was ready to receive and do the work. After the first two weeks, I decided that what I wanted to do for my weekly art piece was art boards. I’ve done visual boards for a few years now, especially for my vision board in One Little Word class, so I had a system.

This month, I will share the pieces I did for her class and then I will share a few pieces I did as a result of a class I took with Brene Brown, and finally I will share my vision boards from the last few years.

I would like to start with the caveat that while I am sharing my work here, nothing you read here will ever replace taking the class. The class is awesome only and only because Stephanie’s words are just right. So I can’t recommend it enough. What I did with each assignment was to do 1-2 pages of journaling and then go to Pinterest and pull images that spoke to me as a response to my journaling.

Here we start with assignment number one. This one is about my life story if I had sufficiency in all the areas of my life. There is a lot of feeling unburdened, peaceful, adventurous, community, letting go and being whimsical in my sufficient life.
