to really appreciate the above picture you'd have to be turkish, but i will translate in hopes that it might give you more insight to the turkish person's mind. this is an actual photograph taken last month at a parking garage. the sign says, "entrance:500thousand, all-day:1million, "i'm leaving right away":500thousand, "5 minutes and i'll leave":500thousand, "i'll stay for a very short amount of time":500thousand. apologies if so much is lost on the translation but this is totally what my mom does each time she parks her car, so it made me laugh loudly.

great article in the new york times magazine on fake paintings.
finally managed to finish the feynman book. one of my favorite articles was "it's simple as one, two, three." what an amazing person he must have been. i am glad people like that exist.
davezilla talks about the evolution of his site and kottke celebrates a three-year anniversary as metafilter celebrates a two-year one.
there seems to be a melanie griffith meme going on but i guess you had to be there and i wasn't.

beautiful words. some of my most prized possessions from my teenage years are the diaries i kept. not cause the wording was so eloquent or cause i lead a fascinating life, but cause i wanted to write. since i seem to have a lacking memory as well, i'm so glad i have those records to remind me of moments of my life. i only wish i hadn't stopped during college.

Books are always my favorite topic everywhere. I love reading other people's comments and finding new authors. As for me, I'm a huge fan of Dickens and Salinger. Read a short story by Joyce and didn't like it at all. Read Two novels by Hemingway and hated them both (beautiful language, terrible characters). Can barely remember the Bronte sister novels I read. Never read anyone Russian, tho I really want to. Same goes for poetry, wish I read more and understood it.

breathtaking.
jake's roommate from college, andy lukich, was on friday night's epidode of popular. my student from school, james carpinello, was in a dawson's creek episode a few weeks ago. he also plays the role of john travolta on broadway's saturday night fever. another student, katie leonard, is on broadway in footloose. and another student, kim director, has been in the last three spike lee movies. so weird to be watching tv and seeing this guy who used to run around nakes in your dorm hallways. heh.
