first things first: rabbit rabbit.
he delighted in everything, and so he tried his hand at everything, without worrying whether what he was doing was worthwhile or not. -- giorgio vasari on donatello
i wish more people in the world had that attitude.
my mom sent me this and i thought it was quite wonderful:
three things that never come back: time, words, opportunities.
three things you must never lose: peace, hope, honesty.
three things most precious: love, self-confidence, friends.
three uncertain things: dreams, success, wealth.
three things that improve you most: hardwork, closeness, success.
three things that ruin a person: cowardice, pride, anger.

howcome women change from miss to mrs when they get married but men stay mister all their lives?

jason posts maps to subways. this tokyo one brings back a lot of memories. if you look at the gray line, which is called the hibiya line by the way, all the way down on the left side, you'll see that the forth one from the end is roppongi, which is where i lived.
some other ones I liked are, london, paris, and for your entertainment, here's istanbul.
fun observations:
architects don't get to build their end products. they need many more parties, such as construction workers, to make their masterpiece a reality.
painters and sculptors give away their original work because that's what's of value. this is not the case for musicians.
if you put a hologram on a glass surface and then break it, each piece will have a degraded version of the entire hologram. this, it seems, is similar to the way human memory works.
statistics presents a sum of events that might not actually represent any event.
getting to know another person requires stripping off our projections.
to be considered a skyscraper, a building has to satisfy the following requirements: foundation is concrete and goes to bedrock, excavating below water level, water is pumped up into the building, has a steel case with wind bracing, has high speed elevators.

four new book excerpts: the decameron, l'etranger, lives of the artists, and les liaisons dangereuses. hope you like them. a reader told me that he'd like it if i wrote more about my opinions of these books and i really like the idea and will try to implement it as soon as i have a moment to breathe. if you want to send me your opinions on any of the books listed here, i'd love to have them and i'd be happy to post them. and as always, if you have recommendations, mail me.
and i forgot to say yesterday, happy passover. tho it's never happie for me as i don't enjoy eating cardboard. and before you say anything, yes, i know that that's the point.

new aiptek pics. showing off my pottery talent, or lack thereof.
i must say, even though i never get as many as he, i am quite terrible about responding to email. especially the really long ones that i would like to write to my close firends who live far away. i think about it continuously but i somehow never get around to writing the long reply and as the messages become three-months-old, i feel too embarrased to reply. i feel like a jerk. especially considering how much i like receiving email, i really should respond more often and more rapidly.
zeldman, however, is already way too nice and responsive with his email, if you ask me. the world is definitely not perfect and nothing can go as smoothly as we'd like it too, but i think that's part of what makes it fun. if it were a smooth ride, i think it would be less interesting. tho some long smooth patches are always nice.
jake and i saw heartbreakers last night. the film, however stupid, turned out better than i thought. possibly due to my extremely low expectations. jason lee, however, rocks. he alone was worth the hours and money that went to the film.
even though some voice recognition software it trying to break me ( more on this later) i am still on a roll with my happiness. i refuse to let it go.

would you remain calm?. in my experience , the least expected stay the most calm. when everyone thinks someone is going to break apart and freak, the person suprises everyone and becomes the strongest, most level-headed party. or maybe i'm just fooling myself. hopefully i won't have to find out anytime soon.
i'm still feeling really happie!
Wednesday April 04, 2001
sorrie for the lack of tidbit updates, it's really cause i've been so busy and haven't had the time to surf so much. promise i will catch up soon.

did you know that making webs is an inate trait of spiders? as in they don't learn it, they're born with that knowledge. same goes for birds and nests. humans, however, have really few inate abilities. we learn almost everything and this, it turns out, is good on an evolutionary level.

watched dead poet's society and remember the titans. both wonderful. sad that instead of such movies, people choose to make pardon my zinger. it's a sad sad world, my friends.
carpe diem, baby! make your life extraordinary. cheesy? may be. but it's still good to remind yourself every now and then.
if you live in the united states, don't forget to change your clocks!
oh and rabbit rabbit.
