ray recently submitted a most touching story to my music and memory page, you should most definitely read it.

"then she turns on the television, some soap opera, you know, real people pretending to be fake people with made-up problems being watched by real people to forget their real problems." - chuck palahniuk in choke.

saw shakespeare in the park tonight. it was funny and well acted and a great way to spend an evening. if you live in new york city, i'd highly recommend it. the play, measure for measure, has one of my favorite shakespeare quotes in it: "Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we oft might win by fearing to attempt."

W. Eugene Smith's The Walk to Paradise Garden

"That those on Smith's "walk" are children constitutes a different and equally fundamental appeal, for like many species we are programmed to care for our young. Is it significant too that the children are boy and girl, that someday they will be capable of producing further offspring? The children's movement away from the camera implies the generational notion: they leave us behind, moving forward not only through space but also through time. The boy strides ahead, the first of the pair to advance from the hiding place into the meadow, and he looks to the right, the first movement in what we expect to be a scanning of the prospect ahead for advantages and dangers. The photo is a famous one and is available as a poster; people pay money to possess this image." - p23 of Origins of Architectural Pleasure by Grant Hildebrand
