Knitting Scarves

I like to knit but I am too impatient and too slow to do something big like a sweater so I mostly do scarves. I used to do thick ones when I lived in New York and I do more ribbons now since the weather is warm a lot more often. I wanted to put this page up to keep a chronicle of what I've done. I don't have records of the earlier ones so I want to keep better records of the new ones.

Color: Gray with White bits
Needle Size: 10 I think

More: This is the second scarf I did, I think. It's made of angora but it doesn't scratch at all. Did you know angora was named after the capital of Turkey, Ankara. A nice coincidence. The pattern for this yarn was alternating between knit and purl. The problem with this pattern is that it makes the ends of the scarf curl up like you can see in the photo. This scarf is quite thick so the curling isn't a problem.

Color: Brown with Gold, two yarns
Needle Size: 8, I think
Photos: one and two
More: In this scarf, I wanted to experiment with mixing two yarns, as in knitting with them together. I picked an ordinary brown yarn and a fancy gold one with lots of bits. I knit them together but didn't really get to wear this one that often. It is a big too showy and I don't usually dress that way. I might eventually take out the gold yarn and use it on something else so it's not so thick but for now I use it for the rare occasions when I'm in a crazy mood.

Color: Dark Blue, yellow, white, and black
Needle Size: 8, I think

More: This one was to experiment with a new pattern: knit and purl squares. I did 5 knit, 5 purl, 5 knit, 5 purl for five rows and then alternated. This creates a square pattern and it doesn't cause the curling that the first pattern causes. This takes quite a long time, however, so it's a bit tedious.

Color: Blue, Green, Brown, Copper
Needle Size: 10

More: This was a present from my mother in-law, a wide ribbon yarn. Its colors are magnificent. The pattern is purl one row, knit one row, then knit two rows. I think. I can't remember exactly what I was doing and it does look quite haphazard but it is quite pretty.

More: Another ribbon yarn. Actually this is called ladder yarn I think. There are a million versions of it around right now. I have another color by Eros who makes them as well. This one is great because I love the colors. It's quite thin and very very long. It's a straight knit.

Color: Tan, Orange, Yellow
Needle Size: 10

More: This yarn leaves a lot of flakes but it's really fluffy and quite warm. It's also incredibly soft and a pleasure to hold. It was a really quick knit and I did it stright through; it wouldn't show any other pattern and I love it.

More: Another present from my mother-in-law and another ribbon. To me, this yarn looked much prettier when it wasn't knit. The shiny part of the yarn is quite pretty. I used the knit 10, purl 10, knit 10, alternating pattern and thus the same curling as the first one. But the yarn is thick and it keeps me warm so I don't mind the curling so much.

Color: Black, Gray and White
Needle Size: 8, Cubetto by Gedifra #1134
Photos: one and two
More: I wanted to make a black and white ribbon and looked around for weeks, trying to make something that I thought was pretty and black and white but not too loud. Cubetto balls are small but I made this scarf out of one ball and I love the outcome. It was a knit of 4 rows and then a row of triple yarn-overs which I let go in the next row creating a drop-stitch pattern.

Color: Blue, Yellow, Orange
Needle Size and Yarn: 15, Poesie by Gedifra #2024

More: I bought this ribbon, thinking it was going to be purple since the site I bought it from said it was, but as you can see, it's blue. I didn't return it because I thought it was quite pretty. I did this an alternate knit one row, purl one row which also makes the yarn curl. In this case, I think the results aren't so good, so I might undo this scarf and redo it.

that's it for now. I have another one I finished with Prism yarn and one with the magnificent Glace but I haven't taken photos of them yet. I am making a white one right now and have a few more ribbons waiting for me. Will post more soon.
