I am not a fan of short stories. But connected stories like the ones in Winesburg, Ohio are more my style. And all the reviews for this book were so darling that I couldn’t wait to read it.
I will admit that while I enjoyed it a lot more than I usually enjoy short stories, I still had a hard time getting through this book. It might have been my mood or my state of mind at the time but either way I struggled my way through it.
Looking back, I am glad I read it and if you like short story collections, this one is certainly worth checking out.

I adore short stories and respectfully suggest you read some of Alice Munro’s stories – just brilliant. You might enjoy the New Yorker short story podcast too, wherein an author reads another author’s work (a story previously published in the New Yorker), then chats a bit about it. Lots of great stories – both older & newer and some great insights on why the writing works so well.
Hi Karen! I was wondering what genre is of interest to you? I like mystery, suspense, romantic history, some biography and love short stories because I can read a lot of little stories in one book. Though I do get sad to know the story comes to and end when the writing and storyline are so good I fall in love with the characters. For a while I was reading love stories with the WWII as the backdrop. Love these stories. Looking forward to hearing about your interest.
