A Book a Week – The Shadow of the Wind

I read The Shadow of the Wind for book club and I am so so so glad I did.

It’s a book I would have never picked up on my own and I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed reading it. It reminded me of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s 100 Years of Solitude. I read it just as voraciously I read that one. This book also has a mystery in it which just adds to the layered storytelling.

I have never heard of this author before but now I know that I want to read at least one more book by him. And I also am happy to see I can get satisfaction and joy from a non-young-adult novel. And that they can be meaningful and delicious without being full of horrifying tragedies. (I mean there are very sad parts but none feel contrived to me.)

Highly recommended.

I wanted to chime in on this author. I follow you and have put many of the books you recommend on my reading list or have read them also. I have also read his YA books – Prince of Mist and The Midnight Palace. Both are very good and stand alone. He has written two others that involve the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. The Angel’s Game was good but a bit dark. I haven’t read the last one, The Prisoner of Heaven. I also have his last YA novel on my list – The Watcher in the Shadows. After The Angel’s Game, I wasn’t going to read anymore from him, but I have changed my mind since reading two of his YA books. I also love the concept of the Cemetery OFB and will more than likely give that final one a try.
Sorry to take your time, just felt like chiming in for a change.
Your boys are adorable, you are very lucky!
Thanks for blogging and allowing me to follow.

I just finished this book and loved it! it was so much like Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Borges. I loved the intricate stories and a bit dark but not too much. Thanks so much for the recommendation!
