I read this book to see if I liked Pittard’s writing and wanted to read another book by her. I also thought, of course, that the story was crazy and wanted to know more. It’s interesting that all 4 of them are writers and both of them wrote a book about it. Her writing is sharp and stays with you.
Regardless of whether you’re an engineering manager, or any kind of manager (in our outside of tech) you will find this book to be valuable. It’s grounded in knowing who you are, caring about your team and creating a meaningful dynamic. There are so many small and big things you can take away from this book if you’re a first time manager or a really seasoned one. Highly recommended.
I really liked this story but I listened on audio and, for me, the narration was terrible. It was flat, british accent that made it super hard for me to follow or care for some reason. I did love how the story all came together in the end.
It’s really interesting how short and different the book is compared to the movie. The book is more like a character study. Shows you how much a movie can diverge. And sometimes the movie is so much more popular.
i loved reading about this and I feel incredibly sorry for Kinsella. I really hope she is the major major exception so she can write another story one day about how she completely beat this.
I love SA Cosby’s books. They are always exceptional. Great story, great writing, great characters. You can’t help but get sucked into the story and they are always exceptional. Highly recommended.
Burkeman does it best. His books are changing the way I think, the way I feel and the way I live. What more could you possibly want from a book?
This was slow. It was ok but, in my opinion, it wasn’t amazing. Maybe I am just too used to huge twists. It did entertain me so there’s that.
I enjoyed this sweet book that was a little magical but mostly about a small community coming together.
I loved Normal People so much that it will be very hard for any other book to come even close. And while I didn’t love the previous one, I did really like this novel. This is about two brothers who are mostly estranged and their dad dies. And they go through the grief of that in different ways. It’s slow and deep and beautiful. At least it was to me.
I love Anne Tyler. I’ve loved every single novel she wrote and this one is no exception. Her stories are often quiet and on the surface, about “nothing” but a slice of life. This one is no exception. It’s about three days in Gail’s life. We see her losing her job, we see her ex coming to stay with her and taking over her space and even bringing his cat along, we see her daughter preparing to get married and finding out things she didn’t know. We see Gail hoping and wishing the best for her daughter and not knowing how to navigate any of this. The thing about Tyler’s novels is that they feel real and true and quiet in the best way. Her writing is beautiful to me and her characters are so real, they could easily jump out of the book. I love reading her stories. I love these slices of life. I love these people who are so flawed and yet try so hard. with gratitude to Knopf and netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. |
