Us Right Now – July 23

jake
A super-busy week for Jake as he had two day-long meetings this week and of course several other small ones. He’s now almost fully moved into his new office which is closer to the house. He also came home for lunch on Wednesday so I could go to work. His tax class is now over, as well, which means he gets Wednesday nights back (as soon as he’s done with the paper.) That’s about it for my awesome husband.

karen
A relatively uneventful week for me. I did a lot of work and even went to the office for a brief lunch to meet a new team member. I’ve managed to read three books this week mostly because they were all the “I can’t put it down” type. I also finished prepping all the leftover pages in my weeklong art journal. I need some time to get more organized which is something I’ve been putting off but other than that, and the journaling I’ve been neglecting to do, I feel relatively content.

david
David’s been waking up once or twice a night to go to the bathroom now and he’s doing great. He’s also working on learning the multiplication tables with me. He spends time doing his gratitudes and math daily and watches a lot of Pokemon movies. He’s also been playing with his legos a lot and has started setting up scenes with them so he can take pictures on the phone. We seem to need to “have a talk” daily but, in honesty, David’s a truly wonderful kid whom I am deeply grateful to have in my life.

nathaniel
Nathaniel is doing great. He’s playing with trains and trucks and cars and talking in almost-sentences. He understands almost everything I say and he also spends a lot of time telling me his opinions. When we put him down for his bedtime, he loves for me to read him a book and then looks through the book himself. He’s still sucking his thumb and using his blanket and loves to watch Thomas. We all love him so much.

Jake took two days off this week to spend some time with us. We went to Berkeley, we painted ceramics, ate yummy food, walked around a bunch and just spent a lot of wonderful family time. He also moved into his new office and had several breakfast, lunch and dinner meetings. And a webinar presentation. It was a full week for him and he got through it like a champ as he always does. I am so so proud of him.

karen
This was a quiet week for me. I had three days off and I relaxed, read, spent time with the kids and Jake, and had friends over on several occasions. I also did a lot of art and a decent amount of walking. I feel very very relaxed and I am looking forward to working again. All this downtime has helped me with the overwhelming tiredness I was dealing with for a while. I also finally feel like we’ve gotten into the rhythm of summer.

david
David had a great week. He is finally on some sort of a summer schedule that includes a ton of play time but also some work time and some art time. He’s still swimming and playing soccer. He’s drawing, doodling, writing, reading and doing math. He has a new lego set on the way which he’s pretty excited about.. He and I have been reading the Tilting House and we’ve also been working on sleeping through the night and going to the bathroom at night. He’s doing it all with his wonderful grace, charm, and strength. I love him so deeply.

nathaniel
Nathaniel learned the word chocolate this week. He just said it as we were sitting together and David was eating a cake and Nathaniel wanted some, too. He’s picking up words left and right and making sentences and expressing his thoughts. He’s also following his brother around everywhere. I can’t believe in just a few weeks he will be starting pre-school, even if just for a few hours. My favorite time with him is at night and nap time when we play together a few minutes in his room before he lays down and I cover him. I love him so much.

jake
Jake had a full week between his interns and several appointments. He actually has been having very full days. A lot of working, meetings, trading. Things have been going great and he is in a good place. He also was part of a webinar this week and spent some time preparing for that but it went well and was very much worth the time in the end. I am amazed and an proud of all he is doing, I could never do it.

karen
I had a long week, too. Busy with work and personal projects and CHA deliverables. I am almost at the end of that road and should soon be able to relax. I feel quite tired and overwhelmed lately and am thankful to be able to take some time off. I took two days off this past week and I think I will take a few more days next week. Spending time with my husband and kids and trying to rest quite a bit.

david
David has been playing and taking soccer and swimming and studying. He went to gymnastics this week but he really got scared and didn’t want to continue. So we dropped it. I have a few more plans and hopes for this summer but I haven’t been able to get organized just yet. I am hoping to spend some time on that this week as well and see if I can get myself organized to make sure we can make a bit more progress before school starts up again. We did also get some of his school uniform this past week which was great.

nathaniel
Nathaniel is getting feistier and funner by the minute. He is talking more and more now. He is really into cars, trucks, drawing, coloring, Bob the Builder, Thomas at this moment. He really likes to have the TV on though he doesn’t watch it for more than a few moments at a time. He has stopped eating his vegetables (much to my dismay) but he still eats a lot of fruit and he’s now eating yogurt all by himself. He’s also more open to trying new things than David has been. He’s still cute as ever.

jake
Jake came back from Washington D.C. and went right into a whirlwind of meetings. He was out every single night this week for meetings, classes and other obligations. He spent his days making presentations and working with his interns. He also took David to swim class and to soccer class. He helped me with some of my crazy time by taking the kids and playing with them and I am deeply grateful for that.

karen
This week was a quiet one at work. I tried to make sure to keep everything as low key as possible in my life. I also realized that my daily todo list items are getting a bit overwhelming for me and I need to rearrange things or reset some of my expectations from myself. Especially over the summer since both kids will be at school in the fall and I really want to make the most of these summer days together. Mental note to self: redo daily schedule so you have more room to relax, cuddle, and play.

david
David had all of his classes this week but it was quieter than last week since Lego camp was over and his friend is now gone for the summer. So he spent most of his time playing with legos, the computer, his workbooks and Nathaniel. He discovered the camera on the iPhone this week too and took a ton of pictures at home and on our walks. He also made notes on the notebook app and found creative ways to entertain himself. He is being really kind and sweet and I am very proud of him.

nathaniel
Nathaniel is super-active lately and talks more and more. He’s now making two-word sentences like “truck fell” or “food done” or “mama eat.” And since we never really had these milestones with David, it feels so new to me and I really love experiencing them with him. He’s gotten really into Bob the Builder this week and has been watching YouTube movies with me and loving them.

jake
Jake worked hard all week to get things in order before his trip to D.C. We spent a bunch of time together working on his paperwork and some of his technical setup. Preparing the website, etc. He’s also been working with the interns and getting them set up and working on finding new office space, etc. Busy but good which is exactly how I hope all of his weeks go.

karen
It was a relatively full but uneventful week for me. I spent a lot of time carting David back and forth between Lego camp and his several classes and home. I also worked a whole bunch and did a bunch of art as always. I finally started on my Soul Restoration book as well and have been spending a lot of time painting it and embellishing it and making it my own. I love and adore the class.

david
David had his first full week of summer. He spent every morning at Lego camp and then also had swim class and soccer class last week. Thankfully, he loved all of them. When he wasn’t in class, he spent time with our neighbor Ece who just left for her summer trip abroad. He also did some Legos on his own and got some new puzzle books for the summer. And reading books, of course. He’s been having fun and we’re working together on things I want to do for my life which are paying attention to the good and living with joy.

nathaniel
Nathaniel is also had his first class last week. His music class started and I think he liked it ok. He spent the whole class playing with all the instruments and listening to the music. He also has been talking more putting two-three-word sentences together and speaking his mind more often. While he can be frustrating at times, it’s wonderful to see his progress in this area especially after our journey with David. He and I read a bedtime story every night now and we play games before he lies down for the night.

Jake had a busy but good week. He put a job call for interns last week and interviewed several for a few days. He finally settled on two that impressed him the most and put them to work. They’ve all been going to work early and keeping busy. We’ve also worked together a bunch this week. He has long lists of tasks and paperwork and documents to sign and clients to follow up with, all of which is a part of working for yourself. Coding, dealing with clients, managing interns, etc. When it’s your company, you do it all.

karen
This was ok for me. I had some jaw pain earlier in the week and I also had some rougher days but I also had some wonderful moments. I did a lot of art. Some sound soul searching thanks to Soul Restoration 2 and a lot of sketching portraits. Work was productive, as well. I pushed a dev channel late last week and started working on the next one. Since it’s officially summer now, I’m working on a plan to balance our new schedule so I can be productive and still spend quality time with both kids.

david
David finished Kindergarten last week. He had several events at school, brought back a bag full of art and projects and an excellent report card. I am so proud of him as he’s performing above grade level on almost everything and he’s also socially well-rounded and a pleasure to have in class according to the teacher’s notes. We do have some rough patches of course but he’s working on it and he’s done really well for his first real year of school.

nathaniel
Nathaniel has been spending a lot of time drawing at his table which is set right next to mine. He’s also making longer word combinations now like “big truck” and understanding so much more. He loves kicking balls around and hugging us all and stealing anything David leaves lying around, and he loves having David home.

jake
Jake had a relatively uneventful week this week. Just a bunch of paperwork, meetings, and checking off todo list items. He’s been working a lot and setting up appointments. He’s also been around to help with the kids a lot and they are so happy to have him around. It’s a highlight for me to see all the joy in their faces.

karen
This week is officially art journaling week for me. I have started and I cannot stop. I don’t know what’s going on but I am loving and cherishing making all the pages I’ve been working on this week. Maybe it was because I got some wonderful supplies to play with or it was just that something finally clicked. I am not sure but it’s definitely been the focus of my week. Other than that there’s been a lot of being tired and back pain, so we’ll focus on the art since it’s much more fun.

david
David is almost done with school. He had a breakfast in class this week where they sang to all the parents and each of the kids got their Kindergarten graduation documents and their memory book. It has photos of David in the classroom from the whole year and a lot of his work month by month. I am so proud of all that he’s learned this year and I cannot believe he’s going to be in first grade soon. He also managed to get pink eye on Thursday, which was considerably less fun.

nathaniel
Nathaniel also had a sick week. He scratched his cornea earlier this week and then got a never-ending runny nose which has caused many scabs in his nostrils. Most of these have also made him quite cranky this week. He hasn’t had his veggies once and he’s been super-whiny when it’s nap time or bedtime. He has been loving watching TV (especially Sprout) and makes sure to turn it on as soon as he wakes up. I tolerate it just for now because he’s so sick but we will have to go back to being stricter next week.

jake
Jake was in LA briefly last weekend for his friend John’s wedding. It was during the long weekend and we all missed him but he had a great time and got to see some childhood friends which was great. He’s been working hard since he’s back. Meetings, trading, setting up accounts, filing forms. That’s pretty much what makes up his days. What’s most wonderful is seeing how much he loves it. It makes me very happy. He’s also been spending a lot of time with David, riding the bike. They went to a robot factory together this week and went to play soccer together last weekend. Great daddy-son time.

karen
With the exception of a grumpy Tuesday, this was a great week for me. I did lots of work and lots of art. I spent a lot of time with the kids and I feel full and grateful. I also made a lot of layouts this week and bought a bunch of art supplies. I am taking Christy’s art journaling class right now and have two more starting on Monday: watercolor bliss and Soul Restoration 2. I am super-excited about both and feeling happy to be surrounded by so much art.

david
David’s school is almost over, just another ten days, so they’ve been doing a lot of end-of-the-year preparation. He has also been doing a lot of art tracing and coloring and word searches. He has signed up for several classes for the summer: swimming, soccer, gymnastics, and a special week-long lego class. He’s very excited for all of them and I am too because during the year he doesn’t do any activities so this is our special time.

nathaniel
Nathaniel is all about drawing this week. He has been begging to sit on the chair and draw. He much prefers markers over crayons but since he’s not so great about putting the tops back on, he’s stuck with crayons or pencils for now. I love watching him color. He now sits next to me at his little table and colors as I scrap.

jake
This was a fantastic week for Jake! He made a lot of progress on several tasks and felt optimistic and excited all week long. He also bought some bonds and made progress with potential clients and other possible extensions for his business. Jake is really great at having a large network and a wide variety of personal and professional friends and colleagues that he regularly keeps in touch with. I often wish I were as good about keeping up with my friends as he is.

karen
This week was great for me as well. Wonderfully productive weekend filled with art and reading and relaxing and family time. Then I got a lot of work done early in the week and we had friends over a few times this week so it was good on that front as well. I was in a lot of pain in the middle of the week which was terrible but I am still working actively on being positive so I’ve managed to not focus on it. I also did a lot of scrapping this week, already working on CHA summer. And, I can’t forget to mention that Wednesday was our ninth wedding anniversary. Nine years of being married to my best friend. I am a lucky, lucky girl.

david
David had a wonderful week. He and I have been taking walks daily right after school, so we’ve been talking a lot and it’s been great. He managed to get a Pokémon card this week by trading some of his silly bands and it has made his week. He also did a lot of tracing at school and I love seeing him do art during choice time. I love that he likes to do arts and crafts.

nathaniel
Nathaniel has also been doing a lot of art. He loves to sit in the chair by the table and draw on paper. I think it’s about emulating his older brother but he looks so so cute. Even though he gets sick of his crayons quickly and is very high-maintenance, I love watching him scribble and seeing how much he enjoys being a big boy.

jake
Jake spent the end of last week and the beginning of this week in New York. From what I understand, it was a very productive few days. He came back tired but excited and energized. He then spent the rest of the week getting over jetlag and catching up. H also helped me tremendously both Tuesday and Thursday. This was one of my harder weeks and without him I would not have made it through as sanely as I did. I am so grateful.

karen
I was stressing about this week before it began. I had too many appointments and commitments. A bunch of chaos going on at work and no desire to do anything but lie on the couch. I’ve learned that even the fun occasions leave me feeling wiped and I need alone and quiet time to recover. So knowing I have a lot of commitments, meetings, events during a week makes me feel a bit overwhelmed. But this one went well and I feel good about all that got accomplished and also happy to know the next week is a quiet one.

david
David had school all week. Monday, he had sharing day and took his gratitude journal to school and everyone thought it was really cool (he told me). We also went to a pizza party at his new school (that he will attend next year) and he seemed really happy to be there. He ran around and played on the playground like he already belonged there. Which made me feel better about changing schools after the first year. He’s been doing great though and reading and writing and playing and just being wonderful in general.

nathaniel
Nathaniel is becoming more and more self-aware as time goes by. His comprehension is also going up and he keeps repeating sounds and words I use. I can tell that he understands just about everything I tell him even if he doesn’t actually do as I say. He has such a wide, happy smile that it warms my heart to see it. He also laughs a lot and if someone else is laughing, he automatically joins in even if he doesn’t know why they are laughing.

jake
Most of Jake’s week was planning for his trip to NYC. Getting business cards ready, setting up meetings, making sure all the t’s are crossed and the i’s are dotted. He also had to make sure the loops here were closed so he could leave without stress. As it always happens, things worked out and he left safely. He seems to be doing really well there and having a lot of fun with old friends and some good meetings for work. We miss you, sweetie.

karen
I had a quieter week. The beginning of the week was a bit rough but then I tried to relax as much as possible. I’ve been working a lot on being more positive and ridding my life of negativity and stress as much as I can. To that end, I have decided to stop interacting with certain friends and hang out more with others. I’ve been reaching out to people more and trying to see people near and dear to my heart. I also went to the doctor this week so I could setup a nutritionist appointment and see if I can finally get a meal plan going. The appointment is setup for next week. Let’s see if it will work.

david
David had a great week. Most of the beginning of this week was preparing for Open House. They made minibooks and craft projects and art projects. When we went to the school on Thursday, he was very excited about it. He and I are still reading regularly and working on workbooks and gratitude journals. This week he got a new Wii game so he’s been playing that most of today.

nathaniel
Nathaniel is doing well. He’s becoming more strong willed but also so much fun. He hugs and kisses all of us regularly now. He’s also more playful. He spent a lot of time playing with playdoh outside with David this week and even though he gets bored with each crayon too quickly, he’s also fallen in love with coloring.

jake
Jake had another good week. New clients who invested, domain registered, meetings, etc. etc. He’s also planning for his trip to NYC next week. Normally I’d say I wish I were going, too, but to be 100% truthful I like being at home right now and want to be here more than just about anywhere else. Anyway, he’s got a trip coming up and I think while he’s stressed a bit, he’s also excited and looking forward to some business meetings and seeing some good friends. He’s also helped me several times this week and I am very grateful that his new schedule accommodates my work craziness so much better than the old one did.

karen
This was crazy. Several last minute fires, emergencies and a lot of stressful work for me. It all worked out in the end (as it often does, thankfully) but it came down to the 11th hour several times this week. We did have some work friends over on Monday and had a lovely night of playing Startup Fever, a board game one of my co-workers created. It was one of the most fun nights I can remember in a long time. So, overall, I can’t say it was a terrible week but I was more stressed out than I would have liked. Here’s to hoping next week is calmer.

david
David had a good week at school. They had a scientist visit the school this week who brought some sea life with him so David got to hold a starfish and other animals and he loved it. He spent the week preparing for the Open House art show they have next week and for Mother’s Day. He made me a heart shink-a-dink with his own art and a very beautiful card. He also got a brand new Star Wars book from the library. Good week.

nathaniel
Nathaniel is getting to be bored more easily and goes through the drawers and things he shouldn’t be touching more and more often now. There are more meltdowns. But there is also more love. He runs around with his arms open saying “uuuug” and hugs and kisses each of us. He is so sweet that I forgive all the bad habits.
