Nourish Me – 14

Mind:

  • I read: I’ve been really behind in internet reading. I have like 40 tabs open but I keep reading books instead.
  • I learned: i read a few non fiction books this week and learned what to do to manage teams well, does that count?
  • I watched: same as the reading. I am focusing on books which means the TV didn’t even get turned on this weekend. but I watched this which made me cry.

Body:

  • Exercise: No exercise this week either. One of my knees did stop hurting so now I am wondering if I should pick something else.
  • Food: Ate some really heathy stuff and some really unhealthy stuff.
  • Skin: doing ok here.
  • Floss: ok here, too.
  • And More: nothing else here. i’d like to spend some time thinking about this, though. I think I need some nice tops. I’ve always wanted to have someone help me find a dressing style. i wish i could have that.

Soul:

  • I rested: it was a very quiet weekend. but i think i need to find a new rhythm. maybe not so much reading.
  • I connected: with more parents from the kids’ school.
  • I journaled: too little. i hope and plan to do some this week.
  • I made art: i started a little bit more art. really simple things but still.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what nourishment means to me. And how maybe I’ve been going about it a bit wrong. I need to do some more thinking here.

Here’s to drinking more water.

Mind:

  • I read: A lot of books this week but not much of anything else.
  • I learned: I am still woefully behind here, too. I had intentions but I used up the time with booking our trip. I will see if I can dedicate some during-the-week time here.
  • I watched: a little tv this week. i don’t really seem to miss tv all that much. no ted talks either, though.

Body:

  • Exercise: No exercise last week, I wanted to see if my knees were sicker than I thought. But they are not. So I am back to doing it this week.
  • Food: Still mixed bag this week. Ate some really heathy stuff and some really unhealthy stuff.
  • Skin: still moisturizing and taking care of my skin. my heels are so soft and lovely thanks to the awesome cream i use.
  • Floss: still flossing. love love love my floss.
  • And More: got my hair done.

Soul:

  • I rested: I am resting. I spent much of the past weekend resting. I am working on it.
  • I connected: with a lot of parents from David’s class. And Nathaniel’s new class.
  • I journaled: a little this week! i miss journaling but I also don’t. not sure what that means.
  • I made art: i finished all my april art and really enjoyed making it.

I think I need to rest more. I am going to see if the intention around slowing down does the trick to help me rest more this week. Here’s to hoping.

Nourish Me – 12

I am learning that nourishment is a journey for me. And it’s not even a matter of all right or all wrong. But making every single choice along the way deliberately. Even the small ones like having shiny toenails to remember my word.

Mind:

  • I read: I am behind in this week’s blog reading mostly because I was out of town and had a full schedule once I got back and then spent the weekend doing taxes and at the kids’ school etc. I did read a bunch of books but not much else this week.
  • I learned: I learned a lot of stuff at the STEM fair but I didn’t do any of my other projects. Didn’t sign up for a class either. Still intend to. I also intend to catch up to Stephanie’s class which I haven’t given proper attention to. I am reading nonstop so that’s taking time away from other things.
  • I watched: I finally watched all the outstanding episodes of This is Us on my Tivo. I cried of course. In every single episode! There are movies I want to watch but at the moment that time is not a luxury.

Body:

  • Exercise: I exercised twice this week. I am working on getting it to be more. I am in quite a bit of knee pain so I am going to see what the doctor says.
  • Food: Mixed bag this week. Ate some really heathy stuff and some really unhealthy stuff. Working on it with each meal and trying to make sure I am mindful consistently.
  • Skin: still moisturizing and taking care of my skin. grateful for this practice.
  • Floss: still flossing. love love love my floss.
  • And More: made a doctor’s appointment finally for my knees and just a general checkup.

Soul:

  • I rested: sleep has been a mixed bag too. I’ve been staying up a bit later which isn’t great. but the 3am wakeup is gone, thankfully. I am feeling extremely tired, however, and that’s another reason I made an appointment with the doctor so I can make sure nothing is wrong.
  • I connected: with several friends this past week as well as workmates in Seattle.
  • I journaled: none this week. I know. I know.
  • I made art: I didn’t do more art since last week but I got ready for the prep work I need to do for it, does that count?

I am realizing that one of the things I am going to need to focus more heavily on is my knees as they are in so much pain in this moment and I am also going to need to do some quality resting this week if at all possible. If not, I will take some time off next week so I can stay in bed and rest. I feel quite exhausted.

Nourish Me – 11

Last week, I thought about and journaled ways in which I might be able to reset and I have some ideas but I am not sure they are the right ones. What I know is that I am not ready to give it up yet. I still believe deeply in everything on my list. So I will find my way back either way.

Mind:

  • I read: Still reading books voraciously. I’ve noticed in the last few weeks that I don’t really like blogs I read anymore. Most of the people I loved reading aren’t writing anymore or are mostly doing commercial things (which is totally fine, just not what I connect with.) So if you’re reading a great blog, I’d love to hear about it. I also loved this little tidbit from zenhabits which resonated with me.
  • I learned: Well I am talking to the kids about projects they’d like to do and David has some ideas that might mean learning new things for me. I’ve also been thinking about online classes again. Maybe something small to get me started…I also want to read and do the exercises for all the wholehearted lessons this week. let’s see if I can.
  • I watched: I am quite amazed at the lack of TV in my life lately. I just don’t choose to turn it on. When the alternative is a book, the TV just doesn’t get used. I did watch this wonderful talk and recommend it wholeheartedly. Very resonant with my goals this week (or in life in general.)

Body:

  • Exercise: I exercised just once again. I have a bit of a plan for exercising as soon as I get up to not worry about the variability in my day to day schedule. But I also know I am really tired when I get up. So we’ll see if it works.
  • Food: I have brought more whole foods into my diet. I have also decided coffee’s ok if need be but I’d like to step back from the processed food that I don’t enjoy and eat anyway.
  • Skin: moisturizing has been going well. I see the effect and like doing it. yey for my skin.
  • Floss: back to flossing, that wasn’t too hard and dude i need to just not stop it.
  • And More: i got a mani and pedi this week. first time in years. and put on shiny polish so I can remember to shine!

Soul:

  • I rested: I have been sleeping uninterupted for two nights. That’s a blessing. Still very tired but hopefully on the way to better rest.
  • I connected: with parents from David’s school at a lovely dinner. It was fantastic.
  • I journaled: once but for a long time, this week.
  • I made art: Started April art. About halfway there and it was really fun.
I did some of the reflection I mentioned last week but I didn’t think about what fills me up,what gives me energy, what depletes me, and I’d love to see if I can do that this week.

Coincidentally, Gretchen Rubin blogged about this quote this week:

“Finally I am coming to the conclusion that my highest ambition is to be what I already am. That I will never fulfill my obligation to surpass myself unless I first accept myself–and if I accept myself fully in the right way I will already have surpassed myself.

–Thomas Merton, Journal, October 2, 1958

I felt like it was a perfect representation of what I am learning along this journey of life.

Nourish Me – 10

And here we are, still not back on the path. I am doing better. I am taking it one day at a time. Forgiving myself and doing what needs to be done to reset each time. This journey is not easy for me and I am trying to be kind to myself about it.

Mind:

  • I read: I read quite a lot this week and read 3 books I loved all in one week which is quite rare for me and I am really grateful. I also read this. It resonated so so strongly with me. I do this a lot. All the time. I want to start showing up to my life.
  • I learned: not a lot of new things here either. i usually spend a bit of time online but i was really busy and decided to not touch the computer outside of work.
  • I watched: I watched just a few episodes of Suits. Not even the Oscars last week. This is quite unusual for me.

Body:

  • Exercise: I exercised just once. My knees are not feeling well but that’s mostly an excuse.
  • Food: I’ve had cappuccinos and mille feuilles this week. But I also had eggs, salads, and fruit
  • Skin: i did moisturize.
  • Floss: i didn’t floss 🙁
  • And More: nothing more. i am still doing the bare minimum.

I am hoping to report something different here next week.

Soul:

  • I rested: I still wake up at 3am and can’t fall back asleep. I sneeze, and my brain gets stuck and the rest of the night is a wash.
  • I connected: with a friend, completely randomly this week and then with another one as well.
  • I journaled: it turns out i journaled 13 days in February. Not great but also not abysmal. I have plans for journaling this week.
  • I made art: i am trying to think about April art already. Open to ideas!
As I work on assessing things this week, one of the areas I want to tackle is nourishment. What fills me up,what gives me energy, what depletes me, etc.

Nourish Me Week 2017 is a year-long project for 2017. You can read more about my projects for 2017?here.

Nourish Me – 09

And here we are, still wildly off the path.

Mind:

  • I read: read a bit this week. more than usual considering I was out of town for most of it.
  • I learned: nothing this week. i have had to work super hard to be able to leave town so I’ve been mostly focused on that.
  • I watched: I watched Big Little Liars and the Billions this week. Oh and Moana.

Body:

  • Exercise: I exercised none this week. But I did walk a lot. a lot. so much that I am hurting all over.
  • Food: I’ve had a lot more cappuccinos and just ate all around badly.
  • Skin: i did moisturize.
  • Floss: i didn’t floss 🙁
  • And More: nothing more. i am still doing the bare minimum.

Soul:

  • I rested: I have been sleeping badly. i am going to bed early but then i wake up in the middle of the night. i can’t go back to sleep easily and i just feel terribly unrested.
  • I connected: with my family this week. and my YA book club, too!
  • I journaled: i have done an abysmal job of journaling. it’s almost as if choosing it for my Feb OLW jinxed it.
  • I made art: i finished my march art and loved it.
It’s really hard to get back on track still. I am trying to figure out how to think about all this differently so I don’t judge myself and so that I can get back on track seamlessly and with compassion.

Nourish Me – 08

Oh man. The thing about falling off the plan is that it’s so much harder to go back on 🙁 I seem to have to learn this lesson again and again.

Mind:

  • I read: a lot this weekend. I spent most of my weekend reading and relaxing and i am looking forward to a bit more reading on the way down to Los Angeles.
  • I learned: a lot about work this week and not much else.
  • I watched: here are a few lovely videos thanks to swiss miss.

Body:

  • Exercise: I exercised one day this week. I can’t even begin to tell you how much this frustrates me but alas i still haven’t done it.
  • Food: I’ve had a lot more cappuccinos. A little better this week but not much.
  • Skin: i did moisturize.
  • Floss: i didn’t floss 🙁
  • And More: nothing more. i am still doing the bare minimum.

Soul:

  • I rested: I have been sleeping weird hours. I am getting 7-8 hours a night but I am exhausted and don’t seem to have recovered from my trip somehow.
  • I connected: ?with a few friends last Friday and that was lovely.
  • I journaled: i have still not been really journaling. i am not sure what’s going on. i was doing so well that I picked this as my thing to try for OLW and maybe that just cursed it.
  • I made art: I did make some art, yey!
It’s really hard to get back on track at this moment. I feel like February has been all around tough and I expect this week will be so, too. But I am not giving up.

Nourish Me – 07

I just got back from Sydney. I am writing this before I am back on the routine so I will be honest. Hopefully by Wednesday things will be more back to nourishment.

Mind:

  • I read: I’ve read less than I’d hoped to this week. But still a lot considering I was working really long days.  This lovely reminder.
  • I learned: Hmmm. I read a few nonfictions in the last 10 days so I’ll say I learned a bit there. Especially about logotherapy. I’ve also learned a lot about my workmates.
  • I watched: A bunch of TV when I got back. All the videos from Brave Girl Symposium (I cannot recommend them enough!). This wonderful video about all that we share (thanks swissmiss)

Body:

  • Exercise: I did not do the exercise but I walked and walked every day I was in Sydney. A lot of walking. my body was aching all over.
  • Food: I had cappuccinos, soda and all sorts of food. But I still prioritized the healthy and fresh. I didn’t overdo it (I think!) and I am looking forward to eating fresh again.
  • Skin: didn’t take moisturizer with me.
  • Floss: nor did i floss 🙁
  • And More: nothing more. i pretty much did the bare minimum while there.

Soul:

  • I rested: I slept as much as possible while there. I’d say i averaged 5-6. not ideal.
  • I connected:  Lots and lots of connections last week.
  • I journaled: I journaled all but two days. But not deep journaling to be honest.
  • I made art: I tried to make art but just wasn’t able to. I am trying to decide what this means for March. I did however take photos every day.
Here’s to getting back on track.

Nourish Me – 06

Ok I am writing this before I am in Sydney so it might actually end up a bit different. But I will write both what I did and what I plan.

Mind:

  • I read: I’ve read a few books this week. Not as much as usual but I am writing this before the weekend.
  • I learned: A lot about work this week.
  • I watched: I have watched some TV and Men in Black with David. That’s it.

Body:

  • Exercise: I did the 7-minute exercise some of the days this week. I only skipped when I worked literally the whole day.
  • Food: I had one latte, but not from Starbucks. We baked our own bread this week. I’ve eaten consistently healthy. My plan for Sydney is to not worry too much. I might even drink soda. But I will consistently make the healthy choice first. I am not going to worry about this.
  • Skin: moisturized every day when i came out of the shower.
  • Floss: flossed every night when I was home.
  • And More: used the flouride-rich toothpaste a tiny bit more.

Soul:

  • I rested: I slept 7-8 hours each night. I expect Sydney will come with some jetlag and low on sleep.
  • I connected:  I had lunch with a good friend and it was so great for my soul. Connected with others, too.
  • I journaled: I started using the awesome journaling practice idea and it’s my February pick.
  • I made art: I made a little more art. didn’t make enough but a good amount.
Here’s to getting better one day at a time.

Nourish Me Week 2017 is a year-long project for 2017. You can read more about my projects for 2017 here.

Nourish Me – 05

Ok so this week has been a bit “worse” than the other weeks in that I’ve not been blindly and wholly adhering to the letter of the law I’ve created for myself. But I think I’m actually moving closer to the lifelong strategy I want to have here and I think this is the better direction. I just want to make sure I don’t lose my way along the way.

Mind:

  • I read: I’ve read a range of books this week. Other than that, I’ve been reading a lot on Facebook, mostly political content and I am not 100% its’ good for my soul. I don’t believe in putting my head in a hole but I also think a lot of this might just be bad for my soul. So I need to find some balance.
  • I learned: Hmm not a lot of learning this week. It’s been a short week and I’ve been working or with my kiddos.
  • I watched: Thank’s to swissmiss, again, here’s a lovely video about making a difference and here’s food for thought (not a video). I’m still thinking about it. And here’s Dr. Burns’ TEDx talk.

Body:

  • Exercise: I did the 7-minute exercise some of the days this week. But then I didn’t while I was skiing. I did ski, though, so that helped.
  • Food: No lattes, well actually i ordered one, took a sip and threw it out. I had two bagels this week when I was on the road and had little other choice and one small pancake and i’ve had some chocolate. those are the processed items i ate. The rest of the time I stuck to whole and fresh. I’ve also just signed our family up for CSA delivery starting when I’m back from Sydney and had a long talk with the kids about eating healthier. I have some ideas around eating very fresh and healthy at home and not worrying about when we eat out at the moment. We eat out at most 1-3 times a week. It’s not ideal but we eat at home 18-20 times a week so I’d rather focus on those meals first.
  • Skin: moisturized every day when i came out of the shower.
  • Floss: flossed every night when I was home.
  • And More: didn’t use the flouride-rich toothpaste this week, back on the wagon starting tonight.

Soul:

  • I rested: I slept 7-8 hours each night except Friday because we were in a hotel and Jake was really sick.
  • I connected:  Not much connecting with friends this week though a small vacation with my family counts, too.
  • I journaled: I journaled for a few days but I’ve found this awesome journaling practice idea thanks to positively present and I will give it a shot this week to see what impact it has.
  • I made art: I made a little more art. Not fully there but slowly slowly getting there.
Here’s to getting better one day at a time.

Nourish Me Week 2017 is a year-long project for 2017. You can read more about my projects for 2017 here.

Nourish Me – 04

Here we go. It’s been tree weeks and I still don’t miss bread or rice or whatever else. I miss chocolate. I miss Coke Zero. I miss lattes.  I miss crackers and cheese as a viable meal option. I am getting a bit sick of almonds and I am eating too many. I still eat no variety at all. This weekend we’re going away for the first time since I’ve started this, so we’ll see how it scales. And I also have been thinking about what I will do in February. Will I continue this or will i add some of these things back? Am I already trying to cheat? I am not sure.

Mind:

  • I read: I read a lot this week, too. More detail tomorrow.
  • I learned: I watched all the Be Still videos from last week. Nothing much else this week.
  • I watched: Thank’s to swissmiss, I loved this save the shoes video. I didn’t watch much of anything this week except some TV.
  • I’ve also been thinking about this a lot.

Body:

  • Exercise: I did the 7-minute exercise once a day, everyday. Knee is better but still aches.
  • Food: Still eating fresh food. No coffee, no soda. Lots of veggies.
  • Skin: moisturized every day when i came out of the shower.
  • Floss: flossed every night. love my floss.
  • And More: still using the flouride-rich toothpaste.

Soul:

  • I rested: I’ve tried to rest as much as possible this week. I slept in quite a bit on Sunday.
  • I connected:  I connected with my friend Sandra and also with my YA book club. They were both lovely. I also met with my new mentee group.
  • I journaled: I journaled very little this week, too. I will fix this.
  • I made art: I made a little more art. Still feeling uninspired but working on it.
Here’s to baby steps. Here’s to taking it one day at a time. I can do this.

Nourish Me Week 2017 is a year-long project for 2017. You can read more about my projects for 2017 here.

Nourish Me – 03

Week two of nourishing myself. I am still telling myself stories of when I will be able to eat candy again. While I don’t miss bread all that much, I do miss being able to have sandwiches because when I go out to eat, it’s often salad or sandwich so this means I don’t have any warm options. Though I’ve been having soup, too. My problem has mostly been one of variety. I just need something like 3-4 reasonably easy breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas and I’d be set. But alas. I keep going. And I keep paying attention to my thoughts. It’s amazing how much negotiation I keep having to go through. All of this reminds me why I am doing this to begin with and keeps me on my toes.

So here we go:

Mind:

  • I read: I read a lot this week, too. More detail tomorrow. I’ve also gone through pretty much all the “here are the books to look forward to in 2017” lists on the internet. Here’s the millions one which is by far the most comprehensive and if YA is your cup of tea, here’s the book riot review of 170 YA books coming in the first three months of 2017 .
  • I learned: I signed up for several classes this week. Wholehearted Artist by Stephanie Lee. I’ve taken her classes before and they’ve been lifechanging for me. I wanted to sign up for Danielle’s A Color Narrative but I still haven’t finished doing all the work from her Storybooks and Studious Girls class so I wanted to resist. But as I was looking I couldn’t help myself but sign up for Be Still. (here are some lovely videos by Danielle, she is amazing.) And even though I haven’t bought any of her goodies yet, the unparalleled Jane Davenport has a free mixed media class. I am sure it’s amazing.
  • I watched: Thank’s to swissmiss, here are a few lovely videos from this week. A little bit of joy, the danger of silence, talk about friendship, amazing wrapping trick, and farewell to obama. I also watched this lovely video of David Brooks’ ideas from his great book. A little TV this week mostly when I was sick.

Body:

  • Exercise: I did the 7-minute exercise once a day, everyday. Knee is still so-so.
  • Food: Still eating fresh food. No coffee, no soda. Lots of veggies.
  • Skin: moisturized every day when i came out of the shower.
  • Floss: flossed every night. love my floss.
  • And More: my dentist encouraged me to use a flouride-rich toothpaste in the evenings so I’ve added that to my self-care routine too.

Soul:

  • I rested: I’ve tried to rest as much as possible this week. I slept soundly some nights and not so well on others. But I went to bed early every night to allow for the possibility of an eight-hour sleep schedule.
  • I connected:  Not much connecting this week, I was quite sick.
  • I journaled: I journaled very little this week. I will fix this.
  • I made art: Meh. I did a bit of art but not nearly enough and I feel very uninspired to do more sadly.
Here’s to baby steps. Here’s to taking it one day at a time. I can do this.
