Nathaniel Reads to Mommy is a project for 2014 that I am doing with my 4.5-year-old son. You can read more about it here. I read, Night Film because I’d read that it was good and I was looking for something good to read. I had never read Marisha Pessl before and I don’t know if this is a typical book for her. I can’t decide if I liked it or not. It was different from most things I’ve read and I liked reading it even though it was quite absurd and quite dark at times. It was interesting nonetheless and if this genre is your cup of tea, it’s recommended. A new month is a new intention, for November I picked Listen Kindly. I want to focus on kindness. I think, at the end of the day, kindness is all that matters. And I am always working to be kinder, more patient, gentler with myself and with others. With my husband. With my kids. This feels like one of those things I will never fully achieve. Something I could always be working on. And I guess this month is as good a start as any. Here’s to some kind listening in November! Here’s the pin where I got the lettering.. Listen with Intent is a project for 2014. You can read more about it here. This week’s inspiration comes from this pin. I used pen and watercolors. This is the last page in my book. But I wasn’t ready to be done yet so I think I will be glueing extra pages to finish out the year. prompt says: today i know that feel ready to let go of… Today I Know is a project for 2014. You can read more about it here. I read about The Golem and the Jinni again and again in several different “best of” lists for last year. I was reluctant to read it despite all the lists saying it was really wonderful. The plot didn’t seem interesting enough. Actually it seemed downright weird. I’d never heard of the author. I had no reason to pick it up just because the “lists” said it was good. But then I finally decided to listen to it on audio. And am I glad I did!! It was absolutely fantastic. Completely unlike any book I’ve read. I fell into its world and got wholeheartedly lost in it. I could not stop listening to the magical story that was beautifully read. And when it was done I felt really sad. It’s not often a book surprises me. I’ve had a few over the years like The Time Traveler’s Wife or The Night Circus where I picked it up and was immediately lost in the story, the magic, the joyful uniqueness of it all. This one was one of those. I am so so glad I read it. If you’re up for something different, I recommend it. And finally all caught up to the fall!! so happy. Savor Project is a project for 2014. You can read more about it here. Life Book week 36 was an assignment from Tam. It was all about intuition and just doing what came naturally to you. As I listened to Tam’s meditation, I kept seeing balloons. I kept seeing them let go. So I decided to write “brave” and then have it look like the balloons were cut to go free. It says: it is time to be brave and release: let it go. it’s really shimmery: Remember This is a project for 2014. You can read more about it here. For this week, I picked deliberate. To be careful and aware, I need to be more deliberate. I need to be deliberate about what I am listening to and what I am not listening to. I need to be deliberate about what’s being said and not being said and listen to all the layers in a conversation. I want to be this way all the time to be honest. If I were more deliberate, I would be so much more articulate and a more powerful listener. Here’s the pin where I got the lettering.. Listen with Intent is a project for 2014. You can read more about it here. This week’s inspiration comes from this pin. I am such a fan of paperfashion and thought i could never ever ever do justice to the pin but i still like what i ended up with. This is all pencil, pen and watercolors. prompt says: today i know that self care and joy makes me feel beautiful… Today I Know is a project for 2014. You can read more about it here. Apparently all I am capable of lately is just updates that are dumps of my current thoughts. So I figure it might still be better than nothing at all. I hope I am right. Here’s some of what’s on my mind at the moment. In no particular order:
So here’s where I am. I usually go into deep pondering/planning space during October/November and this year is no exception. I hope to feel all organized in the next two weeks so I can start testing out some of my projects for 2015. First, I have to decide what they are. I read, Lowland for another book club. And yes, I listened to this one, too. What can I say, I am on a roll. I didn’t like the reader for this at first, but maybe cause I loved the one for Elizabeth Gilbert’s so much that I had a hard time switching gears. Nonetheless, I got into it pretty quickly and thanks to a day filled with art, I finished this one in a weekend. However. I am not sure I liked it. I normally love Jhumpa Lahiri. I was actually the person who recommended this to book club but even though I like so many of her books, I was “meh” about this one. If you’ve never read her, I’d say start with one of the other ones first. |
