This week’s stitching also comes from urban threads. Something simple this week. Just backstitch and satin stitch. The word says “warm.” Nothing super special but, still, I like it.

I read If I Stay because I read that it was going to be made into a movie and I knew I had to read it first. And then I had to read Where She Went too, of course.
I read them both in one sitting.
Swallowed them up. They were absolutely great. If this genre is your cup of tea, you will like these.
And hopefully the movie will be as nice, too.
This week’s a mishmash. Some valentine’s leftovers, some fun one off photos I love, etc. I journaled about David’s day with his best friend and about being at the kids’ school.

Love that happy photo of Nathaniel.

This week, I decided to switch to showing you my work from The Walk. The first week, our assignment was to create a collage to represent The Carnival and the Campfire. Without going into all the detail of the class, the Carnival represents the distractions that take you away from your essence and places where people tell you who and how you have to be and how you’re never enough and what you do is never enough, etc. And the campfire is where you’re perfect, enough and accepted (welcomed even) just the way you are. This is different for everyone, of course. For me, it always about being enough and accepted.
Instead of using collage, inspired by someone who posted on the fb group, I decided to draw a ferris wheel for my carnival and a fire in the woods for my campfire. I then wrote all my journaling along the lines of the wheels and the bottom of the fire (as well as the flames.) The journaling is all about what you hear in these two locations.

This was a very powerful assignment for me and I am struggling with both locations in different ways. My version of my carnival is mostly active in my head and my campfire seems mostly unfeasible so my biggest takeaway from this is that I am the biggest impediment to my healing. (Not that this was a huge surprise.) On the positive side, this also means I don’t need anyone or anything else to heal. I just need me.

Another step in brave listening is releasing what I am holding on to. For me to be able to really hear, I need to stop the noise and I need to release the thoughts, ideas, beliefs I am holding on to. Part of listening and hearing is not carrying preconceived ideas. So this week’s intent is to release.
The lettering I used here comes from Calligraphy Alphabets Made Easy.
I chose to do a balloon because it’s a great representation of releasing something I might cherish and hold on to and releasing it in the short term feels a bit painful.

Since I am posting these retroactively, I will just post our family photos for the record.

This week was one of those where I just didn’t feel inspired by anything and after spinning and spinning, I settled on an oldie but goodie by Abigail Halpin who is just amazing. I drew my little girl, colored it with some crayons and pencils and called it done.
Some weeks are just like that.
prompt says: today i know that i want to change my mind about
I wrote about how i want to change how i see myself.

This week’s stitching also comes from urban threads. I love this sketch. I used satin stitch and back stitch on this one. The little word is bold. I also tried to attach this one to the back in a different way to see if I liked it better. I haven’t decided. What do you think? Do you like the little bit of gold showing or did you prefer the blanket stitch way?

The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells was an Amazon Book of the Month pick and it’s the first book in a long, long time that I remember loving.
I read this in one sitting and I really enjoyed it.
It was so sweet, so tender, and such an interesting little book.
If you’re looking for a good read, this one’s a keeper. A really unusual one, too.
This week’s all about David’s birthday and our date night. A wonderful week.

Loving this project.

And this one is from Life Book week Five. The assignment this week was to do draw a cotton candy girl and some sweets. I decided that what I wanted to draw was a piece of Dr. Seuss cake and a reminder that the goal when eating is not to feel full but to feel nourished.
This page has a lot of texture. I used heavy body paints and lay them down thickly. Even though the colors make me smile, I am not a huge fan of the page overall. It just doesn’t feel like me, not sure why. But alas, this is more about experimenting and having fun and I did both this week.
