Weekly Art Journal – Weeklong for May 2

This weeklong page was my attempt to try some doodling. I had this very colorful background and then added some butterflies and since they were doodled, I decided to add them all along the edges..

Here it is empty:

I intended to leave them empty, but as the week went along, I colored them.

here’s the left page:

And the right side:

And here’s the filled page:

I never intended to fill them but I love love love the way this page ended up. That’s the great thing about this process, I almost always adore the final product.

Weekly Art Journal – Weeklong for April 25

This weeklong page was not inspired by anyone. Just something I sat and did. I liked the last sepia page so I drew the angel is sepia and just left it so. I hadn’t planned on coloring her but I never know what direction these pages take until I start playing during the week.

Here it is empty:

This is the week I was so obsessed with angels. She started it:

Little by little, this page completely morphed.

here’s the left page:

And the right side:

And here’s the filled page:

I just loved how organically this one changed. Little bit at a time. Color here and there. And while there are bits I don’t adore, I love the page.

Weekly Art Journal – Weeklong for April 18

And here’s another one of my weeklong pages. This one was inspired by a stamp of flowers. I just stamped it again and again all through the bottom. Then I painted the background with blue watercolor and made a sun and that was it.

Here it is empty:

I will admit that I wasn’t a fan of this page. Kept wanting to do more with it but had no ideas. Felt a little bummed but went with it anyway. Once I started filling it, however, I loved it.

here’s the left page (love that photo of my boys):

And the right side: (I put all the sketches I made and the key from our little Santa Cruz trip.)

And here’s the filled page:

I think it turned out quite cute. Not in my top three but definitely not as bad as I feared it might be when I made the empty page.

And here’s another one of my weeklong pages. This one was inspired by Rebecca Sower sort of. This piece but not really exactly. I still want to do that at some point, too. Anyhow, I just put some fabric together and made a heart.

Here it is empty:

I sprayed some color using sprays and then used baby wipes to gently wipe it around the page.

here’s the left page:

And the right side:

And here’s the filled page:

I love all the variety in all the pages from week to week. This is still definitely one of my favorite projects of all time.

And here’s another one of my weeklong pages. This one was inspired by Dina Wakley. This piece specifically. I love Dina’s pages so much.

Here it is empty:

I made my stars using the Parisian Anthology line from Pink Paislee which is perfect since it has built-in resist.

And here’s the filled page:

I love all the color on this page.

Weekly Art Journal – Weeklong for March 28

And here’s another one of my weeklong pages. This one was inspired by Christy Tomlinson. This piece specifically. I pretty much copied it to the best of ability. (Though I still like hers better.)

Here it is empty:

I put tissue paper all over the background. Painted, and then did my dress on top.

here it is, closer up:

It was quite hard to write on it with all the tissue paper so even though i like the effect, i won’t be using it again. Here’s left:

here’s one i took in progress:

And the right side:

And here’s the filled page:

I like this one. It was fun even though it was hard to write on. This is definitely one of my favorite projects of all time, so glad I discovered it.

And here’s another one of my weeklong pages. This one was inspired by Pam Carriker.I love her journal pages. It was also my first sepia page.

here she is — closer up:

I just added some fabric for fun. Stitched it on the page:

Since it was sepia, I decided to journal in sepia too. Here’s the left side, filled:

And here’s another one of my weeklong pages. This one was inspired by Ailsa Burke’s Sketchbooks Workshop. The first thing I did in this page was to draw the two flowers:

here they are closer up:

And here’s the filled page:

Here’s the left page:

As you can see, not much extra this week. It was a super-stressful week so I didn’t spend as much time each day, but I still love how it turned out. This process feels really natural and fun to me.

Weekly Art Journal – Weeklong for Second Week of March

And here’s another one of my weeklong pages. This one was inspired by Christy Tomlinson’s She Art Workshop. The first thing I did in this page was to cover it with a map and then put some really washed out white paint on it.

then I added a bunch of paint to the edges and put my girl on the right side:

Here’s the left page:

and the right page:

And here’s the full page:

Sorry photos are kind of bad. My camera doesn’t like these pages for some reason. But I still love making these pages.

Weekly Art Journal – Weeklong for First Week of March

I wanted to show you more of my weeklong-daily art journal. I’ve been focusing more on this lately as opposed to making art journal pages. I enjoy this process a lot and so I am doing what makes me happy for now. I generally start by creating some overall design for the page like this:

this one has one day’s worth writing just cause I didn’t take any photos of it all empty. I cut out those flowers from a fabric. Glued them down and then painted the background with some watercolors.

I used stamps, Souffle pens, watercolor, paper and other fun things to add a small amount every day. No pressure and just fun.

Here’s the left page:

and the right page:

and I even stamped on my fabric cause I wanted to:

And now here it is full:

And there we are.

I love making these pages.

Weeklong Daily Art Journal

Wow, that’s a mouthful, eh?

I wasn’t sure what to call this (feel free to jump in with suggestions!!) but I was so inspired by Julie’s post in January that I decided to do pages like that each week. I’ve already been a huge fan of Judy Wise and her journals but I never felt I could do it. And then I saw Julie’s post and it all felt so doable suddenly.

Thank you, Julie!!

I decided to give it a try for February. I ordered one of the same watercolor Moleskine journals and then started right on February 1. Since that was a Tuesday, I used the first page for that shorter week.

I tried not to pressure myself to do great art. Just had fun with it. Here’s week 1:

Then for the second week, I had the idea to draw these two faces looking at each other:

and I just added a bit each day. I also bought a polaroid printer which prints not-so-great photos but they are stickers and small so it’s perfect for the journal.

I try not to add too much dimension as I don’t want it to get hard to write in but I use it also as a way to try new things. Like molding paste.

so here’s week 2:

closer up – left page:

closer up – right page:

and then for the next page, I wanted to try some acrylic since I’d only used watercolor before then. I was inspired by Christy’s girls but this was before the class so I did my best:

and here’s the full, finished page:

closer up – left page:

closer up – right page:

and then for the next page, I just tried to draw some butterflies. I’ve been taking Alisa’s sketch class so I figured it was a good idea to try. I do not love how it turned out.

And here’s the left page:

and the right one, which you can tell is much less artsy since it was a busy part of the week.

and there we are. I’ve actually done February 28 as well but that’s with this week. I generally make the backgrounds on the weekend and sometimes I make a few. Sometimes just one. And sometimes none. I try to make sure I have at least one extra so I don’t stress. And then as I go along, I add a little bit each day. Whatever I feel like. Some days it’s just 15 minutes and other days it’s more.

And the journaling. Some days it’s really emotional, personal and other days it’s more of “here’s what we did today” and that’s fine too. I don’t stress about it too much. It’s sort of like the December Daily where it’s a little bit each day. And sort of like Project life where I put something about our day each day. But it’s more art than either. Nothing time consuming like photo printing. I just relax and enjoy the process.

So I love it. And for now, it stays. I will keep doing it until I don’t love it anymore. I love that it will show my progress and my life as it is. With portraits, watercolors, girls, sketching and all the other things I am trying right now.

I think my plan is to post these on Tuesdays along with the Weekly Art Journal post which I still plan to keep up separately for a more art-focused piece. But I can’t decide what’s the best day of the week so if you have good ideas I am open to it.

And there we are. I love this new project and thank you Julie for showing me I could do it!!
